Cream Cheese and Crab Sushi Rolls

Prep Time: 10 minutes.
Cook Time: 20 minutes.
Additional Time: 70 minutes
Servings: Yields 8-10 rolls


For this recipe, you will need 1 cup of uncooked white rice. Add 2 cups of water, 2 tbsp rice vinegar, and 1 tsp of salt. You will also need 2 sheets of nori seaweed. ¼ cucumber, peeled and sliced lengthwise. 2 pieces of crab legs, 1 ½ cup of cream cheese sliced, and 1 tsp minced ginger root.


  1. Bring the rice and water to a boil on high heat in a saucepan. Reduce heat to medium-low and cover. Simmer until the rice is tender and the liquid has absorbed. Stir in rice vinegar and salt and allow to cool.
  2. Layout seaweed sheets. Moisten your hands and spread the rice evenly on each sheet, leaving a ½ inch gap lengthwise on one side. Lay the cucumber, crab meat, and cream cheese in a straight line opposite the clean edge. Roll the sushi from the toppings to the exposed end of the seaweed sheet.
  3. Using a sharp, wet knife, slice each roll into 5 or 6 pieces. Serve with minced ginger root on the side.

This is a great dish to learn to roll sushi with. It looks and tastes great when completed.

Buffalo Chicken Sushi Roll

Prep Time: 25 minutes.
Total Time: 25 minutes.
Servings: Yields 8 rolls


For this recipe, you need ½ lb. fully cooked and breaded chicken breast tenderloin. You will also need ¼ cup hot sauce, 4 sheets of nori wrap, 4 cups cooked rice. Also 1 carrot and 1 celery stalk peeled and cut into 4-inch length matchsticks. ¼ cup spicy mayo and ¼ cup french-fried onions.


  1. Mix chicken and hot sauce in a bowl, then toss to coat.
  2. Place 1 sheet of nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Then spread 1 cup of rice onto the nori, leaving a ½ inch gap on one edge. Arrange ¼ each of chicken, celery and carrot in a line near one edge of the rice. Use the mat to lift the nori closest to the filling and roll tightly around ingredients. Moisten the remaining edge with a wet finger and press to seal. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  3. Using a sharp, wet knife cut each roll into 8 slices. Top each piece with spicy mayonnaise and french-fried onions.

While this recipe is a bit more complex, it will definitely fill the bill for buffalo chicken fans.

Homemade Philadelphia Roll

Prep Time: 25 minutes.
Total Time: 25 minutes.
Servings: Yields 6-8 rolls


For this recipe, you will need 6 sheet nori seaweed wrap, 4 cups cooked white rice, ½ lb. of skinless raw salmon, 4 oz. of sliced cream cheese, 1 sliced avocado, soy sauce.


  1. Place the nori on a bamboo sushi mat. Cover sheet with sushi rice evenly, leaving a ½ inch gap on one edge. Smooth rice gently with a rice paddle or wooden spoon.
  2. Layer salmon, avocado, and cream cheese on rice and roll tightly toward the gap. Wet uncovered edge with finger to seal. Cut into 6-8 sections with a sharp, wet knife. Serve with soy sauce or wasabi.

This is traditional sushi, using raw fish. Delicious and easy to make. Remember that sushi does not keep well. Invite friends if you need to.
